Sometimes the best way to play is on paper. Dots and Boxes is one of those perfect pen-and-paper games — all you need is a grid of dots and two players ready to outsmart each other.

We’ve put together a clean, print-friendly board you can use right from this page. Pick your grid size, hit the print button, and you’re ready to go. The board prints on a single A4 sheet with space for tracking scores and a QR code that links straight to the online version if you want to switch to digital mid-game.

Use the dropdown to pick a grid size, then hit Print Board. The page will print just the board — clean, no clutter.

Which Grid Size Should You Pick?

A 5×5 grid is the classic choice and works well for most games. If you’re playing with younger kids or want a quick round, try 3×3 or 4×4. For a longer, more strategic session, go with 6×6 or 7×7 — chain tactics really come into play on bigger boards.

Tips for Paper Play

Agree on a color or symbol for each player before you start — blue and red pens work great. When you complete a box, write your initial inside it. At the end, count up the boxes to see who wins.
